Modern Coastal Interior Design for a Relaxing Lake Home in Fontana, WI

The colors we chose throughout the home, whether in the bathroom or kitchen, entryway or great room, support the feelings of serenity and calm invoked by modern coastal interior design. 

Soft grays, white, and light natural wood tones dominate the color scheme for a bright, warm aesthetic and calming vibe. Pops of colors were incorporated into modern coastal decor ideas like greenery from house plants, and natural tones from wood and stone. Soft shades of blue make regular appearances throughout the home as an accent color that adds depth to the design.

Comfort and functionality, paired with a minimal, coastal-inspired aesthetic were key for this client. We incorporated natural textures throughout furniture and selected fabrics that were stain resistant, while still being light and soft. The modern coastal decor ideas also use textures to add subtle dimension to each room.

In the great room, the upholstered pieces are designed for daily wear and tear while achieving a light and airy look. The two-piece wooden coffee table with visible tree ring details brings versatility and a softer texture into the room.

For the client’s spa-like bathroom, a reclaimed wooden panel in a chevron pattern creates an eye-catching accent wall behind the bathtub. The natural wood texture contrasts the smooth white floor and tub for subtle design dimension.

In the dining room, that chevron pattern can be seen again in the highly textured concrete tile backsplash. The look begs to be touched and gives the impression of a cozy knit sweater. The black metal lighting fixture brings a simple, smooth look to the design while the chairs add soft texture while also echoing the curved shape of the light fixture.

Even in the stairwell leading to the bedrooms, we incorporated textural modern coastal decor ideas. A circular pendant light fixture made of driftwood introduces light into the area and offers great texture by bringing outdoor elements indoors. To further soften and balance the transition space, we introduced a vase with plumes.
