For an entrepreneur and single mother, her home should be a place where she feels pampered and relaxed after long days at the helm of her large firm. Her preference for soft contemporary interior design gave us the perfect style to create an inviting interior filled with luxurious plush elements, circular patterns and subtle sparkles for an elevated feel. Deep, rich red decor accents — in her favorite shade of red — add depth and color to the otherwise neutral color palette.
This collaboration began with a complete interior remodeling and an addition, but progressed into an extensive, multi-stage project. A second addition accompanied the first, and a second multiple-car garage was added, along with an apartment for live-in help. In the process, we also re-envisioned the exterior of the 10-year-old property to echo the soft contemporary design style we were creating within.
What Is Soft Contemporary Interior Design?
Soft contemporary interior design takes the elements of the contemporary design style and softens them further with rounded shapes and plush elements.
Elements of the soft contemporary design style include:
- Clean, straight lines, often softened to include circular shapes as well
- Neutral colors as a base palette, infused with pops of color in artwork and decor
- Layered textures like soft blankets on upholstered furniture
- Streamlined silhouettes and geometric shapes, softened with rounded angles
- Statement chandeliers or pendant lights to add a sense of approachable luxury
Incorporating Soft Contemporary Design Into Our Project
This multi-stage project required intentionality in every room to ensure the soft contemporary interior design style came to life in a cohesive way. The main elements of the design we thread through each room and space included circular shapes and clean lines, neutral colors with red decor accents, and subtle sparkles for an elegant shine.
