Covetable Master Bedrooms
I don’t know exactly how the world will change post-COVID, but I do know this: no matter what our lives look like, a master bedroom will always be a welcome respite. Day after day, we are all balancing so many responsibilities – taking care of family, working, preparing meals, exercising and schooling at home. It’s a juggling act!
Achieving Serenity with Subtlety
Now imagine yourself in the master bedroom above at the beginning or end of the day. You are reading in bed, beside one of those luxuriously tall lamps with their hammered silver finish. Or you are watching TV in one of the plush velvet chairs. Maybe you are preparing to climb into that gorgeous bed for a peaceful night’s sleep. We used tone-on-tone color, subtle patterns and textures to achieve the serenity, peace and pure luxe our clients envisioned. Yawn! I’m getting sleepy already.
Re-vitalizing an Existing Piece
I like to ease my way into and out of the day, how about you? A few quiet moments at either end of my daily schedule helps smooth those transitions and clear my mind. This sitting area, which is part of the master bedroom in the first photo, invites any kind of lounging, whether you want to recline or just put your legs up. Aaah! Now I’m ready to face anything. Incorporating some of our client’s favorite existing pieces is always our goal. In this case, we reupholstered our clients’ settee and added the oversized “marshmallow” ottoman plus the “My Marilyn” floor lamp. I love that name, it is so appropriate! Below the lamp’s white glass diffuser are precious rock crystals wrapping the base like sparkly bracelets. I can definitely picture Marilyn Monroe reclining in this glamorous setting, sipping champagne from one of her stilettos.
A Different Kind of Calming Vibe
These clients had a completely different vision for their master bedroom than the clients above. Drawing on the soothing images of waves lapping against the shore, we designed a modern coastal get-away in the airy space beneath the sharply angled ceiling. Custom bedding and window treatments plus a pair of ceramic lamps complete the scene in refreshing blues and whites with soft grey accents for balance. Waking up to this cheerful setting is bound to boost our clients’ spirits!
Otto Versus Chair?
A dressing table like this is a great place for my client to put the finishing touches on her jewelry and makeup. The series of mirrored drawers across the top keep her most-used pieces organized and at her finger tips. We chose this touchable hair-on-hide otto for her, instead of a chair, because its low profile doesn’t block the beautiful detailing and finish of the dressing table. Plus, it can be tucked neatly out of the way when not in use and it can be easily moved if needed. A mirror is a must-have, and this elegant floor model not only reflects her but the lovely bedroom scene behind her.
Elements That Soothe
As I was combing through my portfolio for master bedroom photos, I came across this very elegant and timeless project that we completed a number of years ago! It is still relevant today, perhaps in part because the symmetry and tailored lines are so soothing. They represent order in a sometimes chaotic world. A well-designed bedroom can set the tone for the day to come and the night’s sleep. The two-drawer nightstands provide ample space to keep bedside clutter out of view, such as e-books, magazines, reading glasses and tissues. The bench at the end of the bed will neatly collect the decorative pillows at night and provide a place to pull on socks in the morning. The matching night tables, crystal lamps and mirrors, with their precision grid patterns, are not only pretty but restful to our eyes.
How to Balance Textures
The stone accent walls and the outdoor view were the inspiration for this organic yet refined master bedroom. Our goals were to create a continuous flow from outdoors to in and to balance the rough texture of the stone accent walls with subtle textures and patterns for the fabrics. Though the storage bench is upholstered in chevron fabric, the pattern is understated and soft in grey and white. As a plus, it can hold spare blankets and throws neatly out of sight. For the bedding, we opted for a quilted bedspread in solid, soft white with an understated pattern. The nightstands we chose for their open shelf construction, which is light and airy, plus they have pull-out drawers, which can corral multiple nighttime necessities. I like to keep at my bedside my Kindle, and a pad of paper and a pen, so I can write down those middle-of-the-night brainstorms!
